5 days
Focus on one region. Climb Sigiriya, visit Dambulla, spend a day in Kandy and return to the airport. Read 3 days in the Cultural Triangle.
7 days
Add the hills or the coast, not both, unless you like long drives. A popular plan: Cultural Triangle (2 nights), Kandy (1), Nuwara Eliya or Ella (2), then back towards Colombo, or swap the hills for Galle.
10 days
The sweet spot for first-timers. It covers culture, the Kandy to Ella train, a safari in Yala or Udawalawe, and two or three beach nights.
14 days
Everything in 10 days at a gentler pace, plus extra time: more beach days, a second safari, or the east coast in summer. Perfect for honeymoons and families.
Tips for choosing a length
- Allow one rest day for every 4–5 travel days.
- Count driving time. Hill-country roads are slow; see getting around Sri Lanka.
- Add a day for the train if you want the famous ride to Ella.
- Check the season for your beach. See best time to visit.
