Private Driver in Sri Lanka: Car & Driver Hire

Travelling with a private car and driver is the easiest way to see Sri Lanka. You set the pace, stop where you like and leave the roads to someone who drives them every day. We plan the route with you and drive you in our own vehicles.

How it works

Tell us your arrival date, how long you have and what you'd like to see. We suggest a route and the number of driving days, then confirm the vehicle and price in writing. Your driver meets you on arrival and stays with you for the trip.

  • Whole-trip hire or a few days
  • Airport pick-up and drop-off
  • Flexible daily plans
  • Help with hotels, safaris and train seats on request

Vehicles

We choose a vehicle that suits your group size and luggage, from cars for couples to vans for families and small groups.

  • [Add your vehicle types, seats and luggage space]
  • [Add air-conditioning, child seat and Wi-Fi availability]

Driver or chauffeur-guide?

A driver knows the routes, the best stops and practical tips. At major heritage sites, a licensed site guide can be arranged for detailed explanations.

Driver accommodation and meals

On multi-day trips, many hotels provide accommodation for drivers. How this is handled, and whether it is included in your price, is set out clearly in your quote.

Plan your route

Not sure where to start? Our sample itineraries show what fits in a week, ten days or two weeks.

A typical day with your driver

Your driver meets you at the agreed time, usually after breakfast or before dawn for an early sight. They drive you to the day's places, wait while you visit, suggest a good lunch stop and bring you to your next hotel. Along the way they can stop for photographs, fruit stalls, viewpoints or anything that catches your eye.

Drivers usually stay at accommodation provided for drivers at or near your hotel, so they are close by each morning.

Driver or self-drive?

Self-driving in Sri Lanka requires the right permits, and the roads can be stressful, with buses, tuk-tuks, animals and pedestrians. With a local driver you can enjoy the scenery, and you have someone who knows the roads, the timing and the best places to stop.

Frequently asked questions

Is it better to hire a driver or self-drive in Sri Lanka?

Most visitors choose a driver. Roads are busy and winding, and a local driver saves time and stress.

Can we change the plan during the trip?

Small changes are usually easy. Larger changes may affect hotel bookings, so mention them early.
