Anuradhapura
The first great capital, with giant white stupas and a sacred Bodhi tree still at its heart.
Sample itinerary
Two weeks gives you time to go deeper: the sacred city of Anuradhapura, the full Cultural Triangle, the hill country at a slower pace, a safari and several beach days. This is a suggested sample itinerary that we tailor to your season and interests.
The medieval capital and an elephant safari in season.
Fourteen days gives you time to see Sri Lanka in depth. Begin with the great ancient cities of Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa, climb Sigiriya, and spend time in Kandy. In the highlands, walk to World's End on Horton Plains and hike around Ella. Then finish with a safari and slow days on the south coast.
We build in lighter days after early starts, such as after the Horton Plains walk or a dawn safari, and allow time to enjoy your hotels. You can drop or add stops as you go.
Add Jaffna and the north, or Trincomalee and the east coast in the summer months. Include a cooking class, a tea-estate stay or an Adam's Peak climb in season. Or swap a few sightseeing days for a beach stay at the end.
You travel in our own air-conditioned vehicle with one driver for the whole trip, so there is no sharing with strangers and no fixed schedule. Your driver collects you from the airport or your hotel, takes you between places, waits while you visit and helps with local advice along the way.
Before you travel, we agree the route and the hotels with you, and confirm what is included in writing. During the trip, small changes such as an extra stop, a slower morning or a different restaurant are easy to make.
Final inclusions are confirmed in writing with your quote.
