Pairing beaches with sightseeing
Galle Fort is near the south-west beaches. Yala and Udawalawe are within reach of the south coast. Trincomalee and Pasikuda combine well with the Cultural Triangle, and Arugam Bay with Ella. We'll suggest beach stays that fit your route.
Where to stay on the coast
On the south coast, Mirissa and Unawatuna have lots of restaurants, while Tangalle and Talalla feel more remote. Galle Fort offers heritage hotels near the beaches. On the east coast, Uppuveli and Nilaveli near Trincomalee and Pasikuda further south have a mix of guesthouses and resorts.
Boutique villas are found all along the coast, ideal for families and groups.
How many beach days?
Most travellers spend three to five days at the beach at the end of a tour, to rest after sightseeing. Honeymooners and families often stay longer. Splitting the time between two different beaches, such as a lively one and a quiet one, adds variety.
