Rail update (checked 18 October 2026): Cyclone Ditwah damaged the hill-country railway in November 2025. Trains currently run between Colombo Fort and Peradeniya, and between Nanu Oya, Ella and Badulla, but not yet into Kandy station or between Kandy and Nanu Oya. How the day runs
Start with an early walk up Little Adam's Peak, then head to Nine Arch Bridge, timing your visit to a train crossing if you can. After a tea factory visit and lunch, drive down to Ravana Falls, or continue to Diyaluma Falls for the natural pools.
If you're staying in Nuwara Eliya, the day can include the train ride from Nanu Oya to Ella, with the driver meeting you at the other end.
What to bring
Walking shoes, a light rain jacket, a warm layer for the morning, water and a hat. Swimwear is useful if you plan to visit Diyaluma's upper pools.

Can the day include the scenic train?
Yes, on sections where trains are running and seats are available; at present that means the Nanu Oya–Ella–Badulla part of the line. Your driver meets you at the arrival station.
How fit do I need to be?
The main walks are short and moderate. Ella Rock is longer and steeper.
What if it rains?
We adjust the order and timings; mornings are often clearer.
Can we stay overnight in Ella instead?
Yes. Many travellers prefer at least one night in Ella for sunrise hikes and a slower pace. Tell us and we'll adjust the route.
Is this a private tour?
Yes. It's just you and your travel companions with your own vehicle and driver, so timings and stops can be adjusted to suit you.
