Adam's Peak Climb Tour: Sunrise on Sri Pada
Adam Peak Sri Lanka
Quick answer: An Adam's Peak climb tour takes you up Sri Pada, Sri Lanka's sacred 2,243 m mountain, through the night to watch the sunrise from the summit, and to see the peak's famous triangular shadow fall across the clouds. The climb starts from Dalhousie (Nallathanni) in the early hours and takes about 3–4 hours up thousands of steps. The pilgrimage season runs from about December to May, when the path is lit and tea stalls are open. Your driver takes you to the start, waits and drives you on afterwards.
Free, no-obligation written plan. Tailor-made to your dates.
Adam's Peak is sacred to Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims and Christians, and for centuries pilgrims have climbed it by night. Joining them on the lit path, with chanting, tea stalls and a sky full of stars, is one of Sri Lanka's most memorable experiences.

What to bring
- Warm layers: it's cold at the top before sunrise.
- A headlamp or torch.
- Comfortable walking shoes with good grip.
- Water, snacks and cash for tea stalls.
- A small towel and a change of top.
Good to know
- Busy times: full moon (Poya) weekends and holidays are very crowded; weekdays are quieter.
- Respect: it's a pilgrimage site; dress modestly and be quiet near the summit shrine.
- Off season (about June–November): paths aren't lit, stalls are closed and weather is wet. We don't recommend climbing then.
- Fitness: the steps are steep; take your time and rest often.
